Whiteout Survival beginner guide: what to do first
Push your Furnace, because it gates almost everything. Join an active alliance as soon as you can, keep construction and research running, save speedups for events, and put hero resources into a few heroes from your state's newest generation.

The first week, step by step
- Follow the Chapter Missions. The tutorial quests teach the game and pay out a lot of early resources and heroes.
- Push the Furnace. It unlocks almost everything else. Upgrade whatever the next Furnace level needs, then the Furnace, and repeat. The Furnace calculator lists every requirement and total cost.
- Join an active alliance as soon as you can. The official wiki calls this the most important thing for progress. Alliance help cuts every timer, and alliance events reward joiners.
- Max your resource buildings early. Community guides suggest leaving the Cookhouse, Shelters, Clinic, Infirmary and Storehouse around level 6 to 8 at first, so resources go to the buildings that matter.
- Research economy and growth first. Building speed and the extra march queue help more early than battle research.
- Join Bear Trap from the start. It's one of the biggest sources of resources, even for small accounts. Our Bear Trap guide shows which hero to send.
Speedups and Gems: save them
The official wiki's free-to-play tips say not to use speedups early. Save them for events that reward spending them, or for very long timers. Don't spend Gems on speedups either. Keep Gems for VIP, discounted resources and hero events, where they go much further.
Hall of Chiefs and similar ranking events are hard to win as a free player, so do enough for the milestone rewards and keep the rest for smaller events that pay out Gems.

Heroes: build by generation
New heroes arrive in generations as your state ages. Put hero XP and shards into a few heroes from your state's current generation, not into everyone. Days are state age, from the Whiteout Survival Wiki's server timeline.
| Generation | State day | Heroes |
|---|---|---|
| Gen 1 | Launch | |
| Gen 2 | Day 40 | |
| Gen 3 | Day 120 | |
| Gen 4 | Day 195 |

Common mistakes
- Staying in a quiet alliance. If it isn't helping and rallying, move to a more active one.
- Using Gems on speedups instead of VIP or discounted resources.
- Levelling every hero a bit. Focus on a few from your current generation.
- Burning speedups outside events. The same speedups can earn event points and rewards if you wait.
- Leaving construction or research idle overnight. Start the longest job before you log off.

FAQ
What should I upgrade first in Whiteout Survival?
The Furnace. It unlocks most buildings and features, so upgrade whatever its next level needs, then upgrade the Furnace again. The Furnace calculator lists every requirement.
Should I spend Gems on speedups?
No. Keep Gems for VIP, hero events and discounted resources, and save speedups for events that reward using them.
Which heroes should a beginner level?
A few heroes from your state's current generation. Newer generations replace older ones, so spreading hero XP across everyone wastes it.
