Brawl Stars Gears guide: costs, effects and Epic Gear
Gears unlock at Power 8 (first slot) and Power 10 (second slot). Super Rare Gears cost 1,000 Coins and work on any brawler. Epic Gears (1,500 Coins) and Mythic Gears (2,000 Coins) only exist for certain brawlers, and you buy them from that brawler's Gear screen.

Universal Gears (any brawler)
| Gear | Effect | Best on |
|---|---|---|
| Damage | +15% damage while below 50% health | Almost any brawler; best on short-range fighters |
| Shield | 900 extra health as a regenerating shield | Brawlers with about 6,000 health or less |
| Health | Regeneration up from 13% to 19.5% of max health per second | Tanks and brawlers with about 7,000 health or more |
| Speed | +15% movement speed in bushes | Short-range brawlers on bushy maps |
| Vision | Reveals enemies for 2 seconds after you hit them | Long-range brawlers on bushy maps |
| Gadget Cooldown | Gadget cooldown −15% | Brawlers whose Gadget is their key tool |
The Brawl Stars Wiki suggests Shield for brawlers with 6,000 health or less and Health for 7,000 or more. Damage pairs well with Shield. Universal Gears used to be called Super Rare Gears.
How to get Epic Gear
- Check the brawler has one. Only some brawlers have an Epic or Mythic Gear (see the table below).
- Upgrade them to Power 8. That opens the first Gear slot. Power 10 opens the second.
- Buy it from the brawler's Gear screen for 1,500 Coins (2,000 for Mythic). Gears can't drop from Starr Drops.
- Or get lucky in a Brawler Blast. Two Gem Fragments can give the new brawler a random Gear.
The wiki notes that Epic and Mythic Gears are usually the best choice for brawlers that have them. But when a brawler gets Buffies, its Epic and Mythic Gears are removed and the Coins refunded, so the list keeps shrinking.
Brawlers that still have Epic or Mythic Gears
| Gear | Effect | Brawlers |
|---|---|---|
| Reload Speed | Reload 15% faster | |
| Super Charge | Super and Hypercharge charge 10% faster | |
| Pet Power | Spawnables deal and heal 25% more | |
| Mythic (unique) | One-of-a-kind effect per brawler |
From the Brawl Stars Wiki's Gears page (checked 3 November 2026). Brawlers drop off this list when they get Buffies.
Which Gear to buy first
- Brawler has an Epic or Mythic Gear? Buy that first, unless Buffies for that brawler are on the way (you'd get the Coins back anyway).
- Low-health brawler (most marksmen, throwers and supports): Shield, then Damage.
- Tank or high-health brawler: Health, then Damage.
- Bush-heavy maps: Speed for short range, Vision for long range.
Work out the Coins you need with the upgrade calculator, and look up any brawler's stats in the brawler list.
Common mistakes
- Buying Gears for brawlers you don't play. At 1,000 to 2,000 Coins each they add up fast.
- Putting Speed or Vision on a brawler you take to open maps. They only work around bushes.
- Taking Health Gear on a fragile brawler. Low-health brawlers usually get more from Shield.
